My name is Diego Daniel Alvarez. I am 14 years old. I have an older sister and younger brother. My dad loves me and my mom adores me. I also have friends and family that care for me. I came from Mexico City seeking another opportunity for life. I need a double-lung transplant to keep living. I have Cystic Fibrosis, which was diagnosed when I was 4 months old.
This illness has affected my lungs, which are becoming weaker everyday. I need to have a double lung transplant that will cost my family $2 million dollars in St. Louis, MO, which is only 4 hrs away from where I live and they will take care of me for 5 years. In Tucson, AZ it will only cost $275,000 and I need $11,500 to get the medical evaluation to see if I am eligible for the transplant, but the drive is long, since I cannot travel by plane and they can only take care of my follow up treatments for 6 months. I am constantly in- and-out of the Children’s Memorial Hospital and I don’t have medical insurance. My doctors are worried that I won’t have enough time to gather the funds for my transplant. Please help me live longer. Make a donation to my Harris Bank account (see above). As you can see, LULAC is the supporting organization. I am also a parishioner at St. Rita of Cascia Church in Aurora. You may have seen me on the Univision Chicago news too.
